A First

Here is my first ever pair of socks!

Jess has been teaching sock workshops at our knitting group and, well, I had the need for some instant gratification and something new. So I grabbed my Knitting for Dummies, my #7 Brittany DP's, some squeaky nonsense acrylic from my stash, and two hours (I'm figuring) later I had a pair of socks for my son! Oh, it was soooo much fun. Argh...I've crossed the line people.

Charlie and the Knitting Factory

A few weeks ago a new knitter joined my weekly knitting group. She was making this beautiful sweater using Lamb's Pride. When I asked if I could see her pattern and she was like, "Pattern? What pattern?" Now, I have spontaneously knit before but never a sweater. So when I was watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the other night (which is a great movie by the way...the world inside Tim Burton's head is really something else) and saw this sweater that Helena Bonham Carter wears throughout the movie as Mrs. Bucket I was inspired! So far, this is what I have after one night of patternless knitting with the lovely ladies of BCK. And really I owe my progress so far to them.

Not only did our new knitter, Julie, give me the inspiration to design something for myself but Jess saved me from myself when I almost stopped increasing the armholes at toothpick circumference which if you just scroll down a bit and read my last post has been a problem for me lately. Thanks Jess! and if you are reading this I ended up increasing to 30 stitches (I wanted to stop at 22 because it is my "lucky" number and she gave me the "are you crazy" look) Note to self, do NOT base increases, decreases, or any kind of creases in knitting on lucky numbers!

I know the pictures are lousy and I am sorry about that. The picture with the collar up really bothers me because of my pose and glossiness but was the only one I got where the color is accurate so I thought I would include it. So here I am, my sweater fits, it is knitting so fast I had to stop myself to post, but I also have a problem. I don't know how to end this. Helena's sweater in the movie is a longer jacket but do I want to keep mine short with extra ribbing, have a simple finished edge, a lot of ribbing/extra cuff on the sleeves? I just don't know what to do yet so I am hoping something will strike me soon. I am open to suggestions. Oh, and because I always forget to give the stats...the yarn is Bartlett's Super Bulky in Spruce Heather that I have had in my stash since summer when I found it in the half price bin at my LYS and I am using size 13 needles. If anyone is interested there are more knitting pictures from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on this Craftster thread.
